𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐓 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟏𝟗

On Friday, July 19, social media was shocked by news of a global Microsoft outage. Several companies were affected by this issue including the Airline and Airport Operations, PH Banks, and other establishments causing widespread disruptions and delays in their operations. Thousands of passengers globally were affected by this issue, including the Philippines.

In a news report published by Inquirer on July 19, the global IT outage was caused by Microsoft updates affecting the system of airlines including Cebu Pacific and Air Asia. Hence, the international carrier of the Philippines "Philippine Airline" remains unaffected as of 4 p.m. on Friday, July 19.

According to Cebu Pacific, its systems experienced downtime due to technical issues related to its technology provider, CrowdStrike. CrowdStrike stated the issue stemmed from a defect in a single content update for Microsoft Windows hosts, clarifying that the outage was not caused by a cyberattack.

Cebu Pacific has already canceled more than 20 flights as of Friday evening. Air Asia meanwhile also confirmed being affected, causing the booking and check-in process to continue manually.

In an interview of ABS CBN with Steve Dailisan, Air Asia's Spokesperson, "Actually at 11:40 last night [July 19], we were able to restore the system but at around 6:40 this morning [July 20] it went back offline again," said Dailisan.

"We are trying our best to make sure that we minimize the inconvenience that's why we are also asking for patience and understanding from our guests" he added.

Meanwhile, on July 20, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) reported ongoing flight cancellations and disruptions due to the global Microsoft outage. MIAA says they were yet to determine how many passengers have been affected by this issue.
