Lea Jane Braceros, a 25-year-old graduate of Holy Angel University's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, has taken flight as a cabin crew member for Qatar Airways. Her journey from college student to stewardess is a testament to her determination, passion, and unwavering pursuit of her dreams.
Braceros' college years at HAU were marked by a delicate balance between academics and work as she was a part of the Student Assistantship program. Despite the challenges of juggling both, she emerged as a resilient and dedicated student. She recalled that college was tough but also the most exciting part of her university days. She learned how to fight for her dreams and work hard to achieve her life goals.
Her motivation to pursue her degree and subsequent career was deeply rooted in her desire to make her family proud. She aspired to be a role model for her siblings and cousins, demonstrating that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
Braceros' experience at HAU's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) solidified her passion for the industry. The department's emphasis on practical skills and real-world experience prepared her well for her future career. She reflected that the activities, tasks, and projects helped her understand the hospitality and tourism industry.
Her childhood dream of becoming a flight attendant was fueled by a fascination with travel and adventure. She shared that being a flight attendant is not as glamorous as it may seem, but it is incredibly fulfilling. Traveling around the world and meeting new people has made her culturally and socially sensitive.
Braceros' journey to becoming a flight attendant was marked by both excitement and apprehension. She recalls the thrill of being selected for the role and the initial fear of flying. Despite her initial nerves about flying and living abroad, she embraced the challenges and opportunities that came her way. She reflected that the experience made her emotionally strong and independent. She officially joined the Qatar Airways cabin crew in September 2023.
As a flight attendant, Braceros has found immense fulfillment in her role. She enjoys interacting with passengers from diverse backgrounds, learning about different cultures, and experiencing the world. "Traveling to different cities has made me appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of each country," she says.
Looking back, Braceros offers advice to aspiring flight attendants: "Never give up on your dreams. Keep working on yourselves and don't compare yourselves to others. Everyone has their own path and timeline. Keep improving and looking forward to a better you until the right opportunity comes your way."
